Historically these two parties have been in the limelight of determining the political landscape of America. Democrat is associated with the donkey which appeared during the Democrat Jackson’s 1828 presidential campaign. The party was officially started then in the year 1828 as anti-federalism faction which grew intensively to become one of the political parties. Today the party has a membership of over 70 million people. The Republican Party also called the Grand Old Party was formed in 1854. It is associated with an elephant. It was purposely to fight for the abolition of slavery which was endemic then. Today Republican Party has a membership of nearly 55 million people (Hoadley 2015). The two the manner in which the presidents have kept alternating in past few decades a demonstration that American are not resolute about policy issues.
