The only hope that exists for the already infected people is the ARVs and that maybe one day a cure or a vaccine might be made. Getting to work under this initiative even as a volunteer would be a great milestone in my life. Many people often think that the only way that a person can give back to community is only through donations to the needy. However, offering your services to the unprivileged in a community can also be classified as a charitable act that deserves recognition. The United Nations program has a number of initiatives under it but UNAIDS is what really fascinates me. Lasker’s thought on the controversial issues surrounding volunteering process holds an amount of truth.

I feel that Lasker’s study on some of the criticism volunteers have faced helps people not to be fooled by ‘Voluntourists’ who have no intention of doing good in their activities. I do agree that the issue on foreign aid to suffering countries being viewed as modern-day colonialism makes no sense. If it was true that foreign aid is indeed an act of colonialism in a country then there would be great incidents in which the foreign aid would be highly resisted by the natives. In order for this criticism to end, proper planning and maximization of the benefits of the help group programs needs to be ensured. Lasker’s research on this matter does a great job at addressing the problems faced by help programs.
