Social Problem Analysis of The Wire Student’s Name Institution Course Date "The Wire" is a five-season television mini-series set in Baltimore created by David Simon. The series explores Baltimore drug scene viewed through the eyes of drug dealers and police officers. The four young characters Namond Brice Randy Wagstaff and Dukie Weems Michael Lee are introduced in season four. Although David Simon has always had an element of sympathy for characters he made the viewers feel protective over this quartet. The quartet is as innocent as one can be on the streets of Baltimore but they have been unfortunately trapped by their situation and the public schools' institution. Season Four gets much of its emotional effect from the ineffectiveness of the school system and these young main characters. Randy Wagstaff is an eighth-grade student at Edward Tilghman School Middle School. He lost his mom to the streets at a he learns that he has to teach them the test questions till the end of the semester—otherwise the school will fail and be turned over to the state. Major Colvin who engaged the delinquent kids by making them talk about their corner experience and connect it to the life in a more civil society learns that his program wouldn't be financed anyway: there is a 50-million budget deficit in the system and the mayor won't take the money from the governor to keep his political leverage. Such is the life of Baltimore where the legacy of discrimination runs through all ways of life and hinders the life prospects of those whom the common phrase remains to be ‘our future.'
