Name Instructor Course Date Letter to Ethical Friend Dear Responsible Friend Machiavelli advises that to be a successful leader one should be crafty and capable of deceiving the public. That means while being honourable and keeping one’s word is admirable it does not last so craftiness is effective. Further a leader should have a balance between being a beast and a human being (Machiavelli). In this regard he should be a fox and a lion at the same time; a fox to uncover the cunning ways of beings (traps) and a weigh all the options available and then make the most pleasant. Machiavelli supports situational ethics but I believe the utilitarian principles will guide you in different environments without appearing selfish. Works Cited Barnard Adam.
