EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE NURSING On February 27th I conducted an Evidence-Based Practice intervention on a 64-year-old Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) patient who was post-operation day one. Also I had two other post-operation day one patients who needed catheters. The intervention that was applied involved CAUTI reduction which requires the careful removal of the catheter. Having a catheter puts these patient at risk for contracting catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI). In terms of patient’s acquiring CAUTIs it is not good for a patient’s overall health outcome. Meanwhile there are negative effects from a financial and even legal standpoint on the facility. CAUTIs can cost national health care systems nearly half a billion dollars on top of the facilities’ expenses. This proves CAUTIs are expensive. If the patient gets a CAUTI their length of hospital stay may increase. They may need costly antibiotic therapy or other expensive cares and procedures “report when an incompetent and unethical practice is not corrected” (Fowler Hegge Lee & Lioce 2015). This can lead to the patient’s health going downhill or even lead to death. In addition poor outcome of EBP can endanger the patient but yet clinical practice is focused on positive outcomes for patients. Furthermore low quality care provision increases cost and patient’s risk. Moreover investigations of the cause of poor outcome may result to compromised confidentiality of the patient. Discretion should be maintained and directed always when handling patient or patients’ information. References Fowler M. Hegge M. Lee C. & Lioce L. (2015).
