The movies Her by Spike Jonze and Ex Machina by Alex Garland do present a cinematic portrait of AI. Indeed this technology can be induced into the human brain and with time improved to ensure that it can be helpful. The two films take assumption the AI already a mind of its own. Thus the issues are less about what the machine is capable of and more on how they comparatively distinguish themselves from humans. But what is perhaps setting the two movies apart from other is the role that women play as formed by their creators. For instance in Her the AI name is Samantha which it’s just vigorous sexuality unlike the female human hence becoming a source of worry to humans. The use of machines in the movie industry has not only helped in making the movies more interesting but also help in reassuring human of their role and function within the societal setting. How does Katherine Emery Brown apply Donna Haraway's ideas about cyborgs to her readings of Ex Machina and Her? What does considering the two films in conversation reveal about gender as a physically embodied state? Would you consider Ex Machina or Her as a more "radical" text in its presentation of gender and societal structures?
