Moreover when violence takes place in these stories at the end of it all there is a moral dilemma. Gothic stories are mainly used to induce fear in the readers. Hence they include elements of horrifying settings experiences which achieve this goal. “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner and “The Fall of the House of Usher” by Edgar Allan Poe are both gothic stories that fall in the genre of gothic story which is a subgenre of horror. Therefore this research essay aims to establish that. “A Rose which is a subgenre of horror. Both of these gothic stories have some elements that define a gothic horror story. There is the use of supernatural powers dark localities such as crumbling mansions such as the Usher’s and Emily’s and evils of horror. In the end the key characters in the story have tragic endings such as their deaths or that of their loved once. They are forced into isolation hence develop mental illnesses which drive them to their deaths. That said these two short stories fit the description of gothic horror stories.
