Communication Self-Assessment Student Name Institution Date Communication Self-Assessment Use of Verbal Communication and Paralinguistic I am a soft-spoken person. It comes naturally to me that I prefer to listen more and talk less. Even when there is a need to interject an argument especially when I am with my friends sometimes I may just let it go and not interject. I find myself quiet most of the times especially in the midst of a group of people. When I start to talk my voice is soft and not high-pitched. When talking to someone I like to maintain eye-contact with them as it gives me feedback on their understanding of the subject in discussion and also to know whether they are following. I also use gestures especially when explaining something or giving a story. I like to use smileys and emojis especially when communicating through social platforms such as WhatsApp anyone even when I am annoyed I would just keep it to myself and remain silent. Shouting to others is never my thing and so sometimes someone may take advantage of my soft-spoken nature to pick a fight/conflict with me trying to make me feel intimidated. I am not a perfect user of body languages such as gestures so sometimes my body language will give a different answer than what I intended to put across; this can bring about confusion and misunderstanding to the listener. Finally my eye-contact during communication process is occasionally misconstrued as intended to scrutinize the other party as opposed to its purpose of passing/receiving the message clearly.
