These methods will help the patient reduce chances of having a heart failure or any cardiovascular-related complications. In this case, healthy exercise or training should not be done so fast or hard, (Sagiv, 2012). In this essay, the focus will be directed on how a patient that is participating in the pulmonary rehabilitation program should exercise based on the three asterisked rehabilitation education topics. The three topics are breathing control methods, relaxing and stress management, and methods to aid secretion clearance (bronchial hygiene). Breathing Control Methods Pursed lip breathing is the effective breathing control method since it helps the patient relax and therefore, it requires less energy. This can be achieved by a progressive method where the patient will have to relax each group of muscle at a time.

The patient can start by relaxing toes and move progressively up through the thighs, abdomen, then thorax muscle and eventually the neck. Another method is through visualization process. A mental vacation is the easiest way to switch to a happy location that will also improve your feelings, (Burtin & ZuWallack, 2017). To achieve this, the patient needs to engage as many senses as possible in order to maximize the effectiveness of switching to a happy mental vacation. By pressing the arms to the stomach, the patient should use abdominal muscles to breathe out then initiate a deep cough in about 3 times, (Burtin & ZuWallack, 2017). While using this method, the patient should make sure to exhale using pursed-lip breathing technique. The whole procedure should be repeated until the patient has cleared mucus from the respiratory channel.
