Caring for the LGBT patient Name School Take away thoughts The dynamics of patient needs are essential aspects for a nursing practitioner to understand and incorporate into care. LGBT patients are one such aspect that one must be knowledgeable in to ensure holistic service provision that respects both the patient's needs and addresses their fears and concerns about their gender or sexual orientation. The article provides a good understanding of the difficulties that are faced by the lesbian gay bisexual and transgender (LGBT). In the care situation the article key take away and after therapy (Israel Gorcheva Burnes & Walther 2008). Some of the important interventions and screening that I will put in place when working with LGBT clients will include gender identity screening and counseling and sexual orientation counseling. Other interventions that I will ensure are in place will include interventions such as counselling support groups and robust referral networks that ensure quality services are delivered to the LGBT clientele. Review and reflect on the LGBT article. 1- Discuss any “take-away” thoughts from the article. 2- How do you plan to make a positive impact on the care of LGBT patients as a NP? 3- What attitudes/behaviors/communication/understanding is important for the NP to have? 4- What specific screenings / interventions will you incorporate into practice when providing care to a LGBT patient?
