Scientist dealing with sociology use research methodologies to produce knowledge that is related to their epistemological perception. Positivism and functionalism are used by researchers linking it to the quantitative methods so as to collect statistical and numerical data. When looking for subjectivity, the researchers relate it to interpretivism and interactionalism with the help of the qualitative methods. Subjective ontology normally leads to interpretivism which leads to quantitative methods while objective ontology leads to positivism leading to quantitative research. This essay shall discuss the relationship between epistemology as well as methodology in relation to research findings regarding poverty. Qualitative research is used in areas where generalized research is required where various people studied so as to analyze their ways of living. Various research shows that the majority of American researchers depends on statistical data to analyze their research.

When it comes to positivists they use quantitative research methods to support their claims. Qualitative and quantitative methods of doing research are predominant methods that are greatly used by various researchers when carrying out their research. Qualitative research is mainly used for gaining understanding and motivation during research. The research is carried out randomly thereby making it easier for the researcher to limit the chances of getting false information that can greatly affect the quality of the research. Many people who participate in the survey feel free to answer the question as the researchers create a friendly environment so as to capture the information that will help them either rule their research in a positive or a negative way (Goertz & Mahoney, 2012).
