Instructions from Professor :
a. The main objective of the final assignment is to help you connect all or some of the concepts developed in the “strategy” class to your SLE, or to your personal project, or to any project that you may choose. In so doing, you increase the quality of your project and reinforce your learning of some useful concepts and skills that can help you consolidate your entrepreneurial leadership skills.
b. You are not supposed nor expected to use all the concepts in your final assignment. Since this class is not a competition, the idea is to use those concepts that help your project, and use them to gain information and knowledge and make better decisions about it.
c. You have entire freedom to choose any project for your final assignment as long as it is useful to you. Many of you have either chosen the SLE or your company, and that is excellent.
d. The core objective of the final assignment is to “put together” all the elements of the previous assignments, create “elevator pitches” (or “stories”) for most parts of the document, and help you clear the way to a full business plan or business case. With that objective in mind, I suggest you cover the following points we discussed in class:This does not mean you have to answer all these questions. Rather, feel free to select the points that are relevant to your project, and add and modify using your own criteria. The goal is not to cover all points: it is to have a good document!
a. What is the opportunity / idea you are pursuing? (“pain” and “painkiller”)
b. Why do you think it is a good opportunity? (industry and market analysis)
c. What strategy will you follow and why? (Strategic analysis, based on your industry and market analysis)
d. How is your canvas and your strategy connected? (Recall: strategy is all the actions and decisions in an organization, and the canvas describes that. However, the canvas does not tell a nice “story”, that is what strategy does)
e. Why do you think it is profitable? (Business model analysis)
f. What are the milestones you need to reach and when?
g. How can you prove to stakeholders that you can keep risk low and returns high?
h. What are the next steps, and what resources you need to make them happen.
f. FORMAT: The format I sent you is tentative. It represents between 10 and 20 pages of text, but you are free to select the format you want. You could, if you prefer, use powerpoint, video, or any other mechanism that you like. However, make sure the document is roughly equivalent to 10 or 20 written pages: the reader should be able to read it in 20 minutes or so, regardless of format.
g. MILESTONES: The project is action oriented, which means that it is important that you state what you are going to do now with your project to move it forward. This will vary from project to project and that is perfectly normal, but please focus your attention on the “what now?”: the idea is that all the work and the analysis help you make better decisions with your project.
