By engaging in activism, Dewey for example went further and approved the use of technology like the internet in various stages of activism. How then is activism related to technology? The Social Activism Theory is one of the theories propagated in activism. This theory is based on beliefs that “most learning processes occur in a social environment rich in collaborative features (McAdam & Paulsen, 1993). ” The features availed in the social environment enables learners to have an effective communication, interaction and have the ability to learn and share from each other. By this, learners are able to construct their own world of knowledge. According to this theory, technology is viewed as a tool that is ready to be of service to us - the users (Shah, Sivitanides, & Mehta, 2013).

Additionally, this theory views technology as being neutral. Technology neutrality therefore implies that the technology itself has an indifferent take on politics, capitalist and the socialist society. This makes it very useful in any social or activism context. Also, technology is considered to portray a rational and truth character. Technology provided a modern experience of revealing the world. For activists, technology implies a particular way of thinking or a new style of action. Critical Theory of Technology analyses technology and technological systems at different levels. Primary level is a level at which natural objects and human beings are decontextualized to signify affordance.
