The Word Police by Michiko Kakutani Essay

The author makes the claim that political correctness is a prevalent element in our society and uses various illustrations and examples to support her claim. In her view, which I concur with, the author associates political correctness with “a vision of a more just, inclusive society in which racism, sexism, and prejudice of all sorts have been erased,” (Kakutani 684). In my opinion, which is supported by Michiko Kakutani, I feel that the methods used by most of the activists to politically correct various situations in the society have too extreme and abstract goals the political correctness techniques are always excessive. Over –exaggerating political correctness only dilutes our intended message and complicates our words. In order to produce meaningful and desired results, it is important to take bold steps and take extreme actions.
