Often the health providers use the initial contacts with the patients to collect the information relating to the complaints and symptoms of the client (Derogatis & Brotto 2013 p. 220). The received data would be used during diagnosis and the treatment process. According to the counselors the clinical assessment information gathered is used to implement the clinical decisions to accomplish the counseling steps designed for the clients. The clinical assessment for diagnosis and treatment involves two components: the client intake and clinical interview. The assessment could be either structured or unstructured. However the evaluation cannot be finished in a one-time interview but involves a continuous process necessary to help those assessing the clients to evaluate the potential results from the tests and those results from the alternative users (Rice & Marshall 2013 p. 68).
