Argumentative Essay:Gun Control (Example)

Document Preview:

Student Name: Instructor Name: Course: Date: Gun Control Gun control is a touchy topic in America. Many of the proponents of stricter gun control laws argue that making guns less readily available will reduce the incidence of criminal homicides (Zimring 721). However we must also entertain the possibility that a person who is intent on killing may find some other way to do it if guns are unavailable. This paper will attempt to present an argument for why gun control may do little to help deaths in America. Generally the same kinds of altercations motivate killings by guns and knives (Zimring 726). These altercations include general domestic money liquor sex gambling love triangles theft and so on. Zimring argues that since the people who make homicidal attacks with firearms are substantially the same as those who make homicidal attacks with other weapons reducing the number of guns through stricter could simply hang themselves or ingest poison. While it would be presumptuous to assert that the literature discussed in this paper constitutes a consensus on the controversial topic of gun control it may be time to change tack and focus instead on the human element of the gun violence equation. Perhaps equipping people to cope with life’s challenges more adequately could do more to curb gun-related deaths than any regulations could.
