Financial Intelligence. Name Institution Financial Intelligence Looking at the 2015/2016 Global Entrepreneurship Report it becomes clear that almost half of all the businesses which close down do so mainly due to lack of profits. Furthermore only about 20% of entities survive through their first year of establishment. On the flipside there are organizations which last for more than five years and will probably exist for a long time. One of the factors leading to early business closure is using models which lack harmony with the agenda. This begs the question what makes a business last? The answers lie in the ability to incorporate carefully thought through decisions in their daily activities. These decisions are mainly influenced by managers who are able to carefully analyze data and make an appropriate interpretation of the data; a trait widely termed as financial intelligence. At the core of any successful business lies managers financial performance which will affect the decision making processes. Types of analysis include horizontal that compares items between different statements vertical which calculates an item as a percentage of another from the same statement and ratio analysis which compares performance over a time period. To conclude financial intelligence is a key determinant of an entity's success in the business world. In as much as it is not the sole determinant of decisions knowledge of numbers cannot be ignored in making choices for the firm. References Berman K. & Knight J. (2008).
