Student’s Name Instructor’s Name Course Date Global Village Activity: Horace Miners “Body Ritual among the Nacirema” Body Rituals among the Nacirema is an article by Horace Miner about the daily functions and rituals of the Nacirema. Miner relates the beliefs cultures practices and values of a tribe that is seemingly strange and exotic. The author offers a vivid description of the activities along with behaviors which are interpreted as bizarre and unusual. The Nacirema are a group of people in North America living in a territory between the Creel the Yaqui of Canada and a pharmacist who offers the prescribed medicine. In writing this article Miner employs a unique approach that enables us to realize various things about our cultures. The story attempts to get us to examine our cultures from an outside perspective as we tend to think we are normal and perceive other cultures as strange. I feel that the author is helping us realize the importance of respecting the beliefs daily rituals and lifestyles of cultures we perceive as odd. Works Cited Miner Horace.
