The Military Family

I will give you a couple of unrealistic expectations that a spouse may have of the military. Specifically, I will be speaking from the Army perspective and from my own personal experiences. I remember as a young soldier getting my first set of orders to go overseas. Normally, if you were married, your family would be accompanying you to the next assignment. This particular assignment was for a year in Sinai, Egypt without my family. At the time, I had a 4-year-old and 12-month old daughter, with my third daughter due in the next month. I didn’t know the best way to tell my wife but I did the best that I could. Here’s where the unrealistic expectation comes in. She got angry and said, “You aren’t going, I don’t care what the Army says”! There wasn’t much I could do but reassure her that she would be okay and I had an obligation. Another unrealistic expectation is the false belief that the military spouse will be home at a set time every day. Depending on the time you accomplish your duties and being released to go home, it never is the same time. I want to note that most of these “unrealistic expectations” normally happen with the younger, newer to the military, couples. Over time, the spouse adapts, understands, and knows how to deal with certain situations. On the issue of what circumstances should exempt a soldier from deployment, ultimately it should be up to the commander to decide. There are special situations that should be a definite exemption. Birth, death, severe injury, and incapability to conduct the mission. Please reply to the above topic up to 100 words then i need a separate up to 150 words or more APA format to the following: Discuss possible unrealistic expectations that a spouse may have of the military. Under what circumstances should a military member be exempt from deployment? Comment on at least four other students' postings. This week we will be looking at the unique culture of the military often referred to as the "Warrior Society." This authoritarian society is not governed by a democratic system, but rather ranks its members according to their position in the organization, and governs by secrecy, stoicism, and denial. The "warrior" and their family live within the confines of this "fortress," which is often characterized by issues of isolation, alienation from other civilian communities, and frequent parental absences. We will also explore the benefits available to veterans.
