In managing patients with asthma, an asthma action plan is imperative. An asthma action plan is a personalized program of managing asthma which is drawn/written by the healthcare provider, the patient and the patient’s caregiver detailing the treatment plan for the asthma. The action plan action plan can be used by the patient, caregiver or the healthcare provider to manage any of the asthma flare-ups, complications and ensure prevention of any triggers for asthma. An asthma action plan has been proven to be imperative in-home management of asthma in patients(Kelso, 2016). An asthma action plan is developed following a discussion between the healthcare provider, patient and the caregiver depending on the patient’s symptoms or their peak expiratory flow rates.

Health education on the use of medications for asthma is another important health information key for asthmatic patients. Asthma management differs from patient to patient hence it is imperative for the patients to understand their individual treatment and medications as well as its usage. Self-administration of medications such as inhalers is critical and enables the patient to become more independent in their management. When working with asthmatic patients, one of the effective strategies involves the utilization of family caregivers such as their wife’s or other close family members. The rationale of using such caregivers is that they are more likely to be around in case of attacks and can provide emergency care such as during asthmatic attacks. , Boulet, L. , Kaplan, A.
