Anton's syndrome Student’s name Institutional affiliation Date Introduction Anton's syndrome is a sensory system disorder in which an individual denies his or her blindness even if there is objective evidence of visual loss as a consequence of bilateral lesions in the occipital cortex part of the brain responsible for visual processing (Kondziella & Frahm-Falkenberg 2011 p. 96). The occurrence of this can be through following each infarcts of the posterior cerebral artery or through concurrent infarction of the posterior cerebral artery vessels. Moreover in some cases this sensory system disorder can result from and have reading comprehension however they cannot see naturally. This would in return result into difficulties in a person's day to day movements in which it would be extremely hard to work and socialize unless measures are put in place to assist with the vision (Kondziella & Frahm-Falkenberg 2011 p. 97). Disorders of the Sensory Systems Select ONE disorder of the sensory system to discuss. You must choose a different disorder than your peers. Select a disorder of the sensory system from this list. • Anton’s syndrome • blindsight • Balint’s syndrome • Gerstmann’s syndrome • central achromatopsia • apperceptive agnosia • associative agnosia • object anomia • hemispatial neglect • tactile agnosia Conduct research and locate two peer-reviewed articles to support your statements. In your paper: • Explain the symptoms of the disorder. • Describe how the diagnosis is made (e.g., findings on brain imaging, laboratory testing, etc.). • Discuss the neurobiological basis for the disorder (e.g., CNS structures involved and neurotransmitters). • Describe the functional deficits associated with the disorder including how these may impact the patient’s ability to carry out activities of daily living (e.g., occupational, social, recreational). • Cite your sources in APA style as outlined in the Writing Center.
