Failed States Research
Document Type:Coursework
Subject Area:Politics
The United States and other governments such as German and Canada have emphasized that many failed and weak states pause a significant threat to international peace and security, (von Engelhardt et al, 40-86). The failed states are often hosting or are sources of transnational security threats such as terrorism, diseases, and civil conflicts whose spillover effects are felt by other nations. However, there has not been any clear understanding of these failed states and therefore preparing how to deal with them or how to deal with responses to failure has been part of the challenge. This has led to the designing of an Index of State Weakness to act as a tool for researchers and policy-makers in helping them to assess and analyze the most vulnerable states in the world.
It has been discovered that the factors behind having these weak and failed states include a variety of internal issues ranging from poor leadership, lack of indigenous strategies for development, corruption to weak governance, (von Engelhardt et al, 40-86). The United States together with other developed governments can provide the necessities of life for the local population such as school, water to drink, and creation of jobs, (von Engelhardt et al, 40-86). The governments have to work together comprehensively towards this and ensure that all the people focus towards the achievement of the progress. Facilitating the development of these failed states both socially, economically, and politically is not only significant to the states themselves but also to other governments as well.
