This civil act of 1866 is known as one of the major steps in the process of struggling for equality especially on the black people. The main purpose of the civil right of the act of 1866 was to protect the ex-slaves from being legislated by the southern states as being black codes. Civil rights of 1866 were of great significance since it marked African milestone in struggling for equality but racial segregation was still enforced by the laws of Jim Crow. There was some relationship between the civil rights acts of 1866 and that of the Fourteenth Amendment. The controversy that rose between civil rights of the act of 1866, as well as the extension of the Freedmen’s Bureau, was due to Congress and president.
