The Modernized Miller's Tale (Example)

Document Preview:

Name: Professor: Course Name: Modernization of Miller’s Tale Chaucer has interesting literary works that receive recognition in modern literature. It shows that Geoffry Chaucer has a brilliant way of constructing tales that attract modern readers. However since the plots are old they may not be relevant to some of the contemporary situations. The scenarios give the reader an understanding of values and social beliefs of the periods in which it was written (Chaucer 2008). The paper follows a discussion on changes made on a version of the Miller’s Tale that I will create. The version will include 21st Century modernization hence making the plot relevant to a modern reader. The version will feature changes communication in the contemporary society that seem contrary to those presented in the original publication of the Canterbury Tales. Scene 1 shows Nelly working on a plank. The maid asks him why he did not compared to his dumbness in the original story. He has institutive doubts that led him to the acquisition of spyware to investigate on his wife. He also has the guts to counter Nelly’s plan and threaten on taking legal actions. The scenarios exhibit Japheth as an outstanding character in the tale. In conclusion Geoffry Chaucer’s original plan on Miller’s Tale was to show emphasis on the lack of information in relationships. He used a marital case to build a perfect scenario indicating how the lack of communication affects marriages. His tales shows that John has no clue of the relationship between Alison and Nicholas (Chaucer 2008). The modernized version of the story maintains this theme by indicating how the lack of communication between Japheth and Alicia led to the failure of their relationship and infidelity.
