Environmental pollution risk assessment
This paper closely analyzes the different types of pollution; the effects of pollution on the natural environment in the contemporary setting as done in a robust risk assessment of the environmental pollution using ERA; and methods on how pollution risks can be countered for the good of humanity, the environment as well as the ecosystem. Types of pollution Pollution can be classified according to nature it takes as observed below. It can be in the form of harmful energies such as light, heat as well as sound. Also, pollution can take the form of tangible waste which are garbage, and chemical substances from industries, farms et cetera. These can further be said to pollute water, land, and air in their respective occurrences.
There was only a little production of plastic from the 1950s to 1970s, this manageable situation changed in the ’90s as plastic production tripled until at our present times where there are 300 million tonnes per year. Equivalently, there has been an estimated 8. 3 billion tons production of plastic from the mid-20th century. Sadly, 60% of this production has found its final destination in the environment. What makes plastic so hazardous is the composition of its elements which come from coal, natural gas, and oil which are non-renewable and dirty. As the germs lead to illnesses such as cholera, bilharzia among other chemicals from industries are poisonous both to man existing downstream and the ecosystem. Fisheries are suffering from man's mistakes and the unceasing ignorance of pollution.
Despite this much effort, industries are continuing to worsen the situation by draining toxic pollutants and waste in rivers, canals, lakes as well as oceans. This endangers the marine ecosystem as well as humanity. Acid rain which also endangers the marine life originates from industrial waste being deposited into the atmosphere. The government can also introduce a strict and permanent ban on production and use of disposable plastic bags. This would discourage production of more plastic in the world. Although it is the mandate of governments to organize recycling campaigns as well as working on policies that reduce the production of the tanning industry, individuals should learn the culture of avoiding littering the environment with plastics, dumping medications to the toilet as well as avoiding dumping waste food.
