The theory also attempts to make clear the structure of the chromosomes and how they facilitate inheritance. According to the theory, chromosomes are linear structures with special structures known as loci. The loci are sites in which genetic materials – genes attach. The theory argues that chromosomes form the basis for all genetic inheritance. The chromosomes are found in all dividing cells. Abnormalities in chromosomes may affect genes responsible for basic body functioning. Once the body organs and systems are affected, the ill health sets in as the body cannot function effectively. Chromosomes are related to the DNA in that Chromosomes long strands that occur within a cell nucleus in pairs and are composed of genes. The genes are made up of genetic materials – DNA.
