In his opinion, one's level of intelligence is not directly proportional to listening to music. Harris takes the listening to music while carrying out work as not getting something of benefit but rather blocking the imaginations and reality of the real life so that one does not think about him/herself. The story "blasting music to drown out reality" by Sydney J. Harris" is a reflection of the writer's attitude towards the young men that were carrying out the repair. The writer was critical of the young men’s listening to music which I don’t agree with. In support of his words, he says today's society can frame Karl Max's words to read, "Opium is the people's religion" (Sydney, 241). The writer's claims are strongly attributed to the people's strong attraction towards music.

In his opinion, he feels music is strongly bound in today's people in such a way that they love the music from their radios more than anything else. He further compares peoples love for music to drugs and the boozes claiming people will today opt for music more than anything else in the same essay on page 241. This is particularly wrong because people take music for entertainment and to avoid boredom but rather do not entirely sink in music in such a way that they cannot pay attention to other things that have much importance. The listeners and those who love music are still deepened, elevated and delighted by the music genres. This is true because when listening to music, one seems to be celebrating the good message of the music and his or her heart is explored by the tune and melody of the music.
