Groups go through various stages which include; formation, storming, norming, performing and morning. The formation phase of the group involves the initial touch between the group members, usually, the group members are unsure of their roles and responsibilities in the group and appear to be polite and restrained in their participation. The storming phase marks a phase in the group that is characterized by the occurrence of conflict within the group members which is characterized by a misunderstanding among the group members and often the conflict can occur between various members of the group. The stage is followed by the normative phase in which the group develops harmony and the conflicts within the group are resolved and the group develops mutual support for each other.

This stage is followed by the performing stage which is characterized by the group organizing itself and is able to produce results as intended. Imparting information is important to the group as it enables the members to understand their progress and areas that they would need to improve on in the process of undergoing the group therapy sessions (Restek-Petrović et al. The intragroup conflict that occurred in the therapy group was due to a past event that was considered distasteful by one of the group members. It involved the participants having a stormy exchange and blame-game between Pam and Phillips. This conflict escalated to include other members who had various additions and contributions. To manage conflict within the group members in group therapy is to partialize the group so that the members feel that they are all or mostly having similar assertations and conversations and that the conflicts are mostly unnecessary (Behfar, Mannix, Peterson & Trochim, 2010).
