Martin Luther King Junior was assassinated due to championing for equal rights between the Europeans and the African Americans. This form of racial discrimination causes great damage to the victims including causing hatred, low self-esteem and in some instances psychological trauma which may leave permanent damage to the victim. Racism can also promote violence or social conflict by the victims who are filled with anger and bitterness due to the discrimination and prejudice that they go through. I selected this particular group because they underwent a lot of cruelty and discrimination based on their skin color. Hence I feel that there is a need to discuss and spread awareness about racism which is rampant and mainly affecting the Africans living in America.

The African American women were stereotyped as laborers in the homes of the Europeans, where they were employed as nannies and maids who prepared food for the white people but were not allowed to share a table with them. The Africans Americans were also stereotyped as being less intelligent as compared to the Europeans as some Europeans referring to the Africans Americans as being dumb. All these forms of prejudice made the African Americans feel like lesser human beings, and they also felt unwanted in the society. According to the movie “A Class Divided,” the third class students were engaged by their teacher Jane Elliot in a discussion entailing discrimination, racism, and prejudice to know their take on the matter regarding discrimination and racism.

This was after the students were inquisitive on the reason behind the assassination of Martin Luther King junior. This was quite evident through their feelings when they wore a collar that distinguished them from the better group. They also learned that every person is supposed to be appreciated regardless of their race or color as that does not make any race superior to the other. Through their skin color, the African Americans have been stereotyped as being an inferior race since their skin color does not resemble that of the Europeans hence they belong to the lower class people who are slaves, (Whitley & Kite 2016 ).
