Student's name Instructor's name Course Date Analysis of Jay Gatsby as a character Throughout the story the character of Jay Gatsby is shrouded with a lot of mystery because most of his associates don’t know who he is. He is ashamed of his past life/origin since he was the son of a peasant farmer from North Dakota but lies that he is in fact from a wealthy background. He propels this terrible lie by throwing extravagant parties at his newly owned mansion. However soon people start noticing the various flaws in his stories and the end is forced to confess to his friend Nick about his true identity and why he lies about what he does for a living. Jay Gatsby has a significant flaw in his character up a dead man because his otherwise precarious actions were leading him to the grave. Gatsby is a man blinded by love and is willing to do anything just to grasp the embrace of the woman of his dreams (Fitzgerald 21). His character is very relevant in modern society reflecting the ideal of people where their talent and hard work get rewarded routinely. Furthermore his story is a good representation of people in the world today who are even capable of murder for the one they so dearly love. In my opinion the author of this novel chose this storyline as a way of bringing forth the norms of the activities that are evident in today’s society.
