However, there are strong argumentative points which people used to define the American status of an individual. These points vary from time to time and to whom they are being addressed to. The assigned primary source documents from week one to week five identify that the main factors which influenced the definition of a real American especially in the early 20th century were class, race, sexuality, and gender among others. This research paper highlights the changes in the definition of who is considered to be a ‘real’ American in the early 20th century though the World War II. The skin color is one of the major factors that were considered while identifying an American in the early 20s. In the great depression, the unemployed Americans who painted Mural in federal buildings made him portray the American society in a critical light (Paul, 1939).

Therefore, a real American is no-longer defined on the basis of their color. Articles have been published and discussed about the struggle for superiority among the different races in the US. Some races such as the whites and African American fought openly in the early years. Certain researchers argue that the tribes in power oppressed the other tribes since they wanted to rule over them for the longest time. A lot of research on the definition of a real American has shown a close relation between the financial status of an individual and his/her social acceptance. In the early 20th century, the wealthy people were considered to be the real Americans due to their attractive financial statuses. They were very influential and President Roosevelt often consulted with them before making major decisions.
