Writing a Research Proposal
In this unit, you will come to the culmination of all your efforts, the place where you put all pieces together for the final project. As we discussed in Unit 1, writing a research proposal is basically writing the first three chapters of an APA style research paper. It includes Chapters 1, 2, and 3 of the research paper—the Introduction, the Literature Review, and the Methodology sections. To recap, following are the sections you have already written:
The Introduction section serves to provide the reader with the background of the research problem. It identifies what the problem is, explains why it is important to study, and gives a brief summary of the most important findings related to the problem to put it into context with the rest of the literature on the topic. The main objective of the introduction is to help the reader understand the research problem and its importance to the field of psychology.
For the course project, you are required to finalize the proposal you have been developing on a topic of your choice throughout this course. You chose your topic in Unit 2 and wrote drafts of each section (Introduction, Literature Review, and Methodology) in Units 4, 6, and 8, respectively. In this unit, you will revise your proposal draft based on feedback received from your instructor for the assignments in Units 2, 4, 6, and 8, and submit your final research proposal for grading. Your proposal should be 20–25 pages, including your title page and reference page, with a minimum of 10 references from scholarly resources.
To ensure you are meeting the objectives of this assignment, please review the Research Proposal Scoring Guide. In your paper, include in-text citations and a reference section at the end. Make sure your paper is formatted based on APA sixth edition guidelines. See the iGuide page APA Style and Format or basic rules of style and formatting at the APA Style Web site for information on these guidelines.
If feedback from your instructor suggested JITA, PsychLab, Learning Resource, or Smarthinking tutoring, please complete that during revisions. When all revisions are completed, submit your paper to the Turnitin source matching tool and review any incidences where you have not properly given credit to the author of a source. For more information on using Turnitin, review the Turnitin tutorials given in the resources.
