As organisations set targets and lay down strategies to meet the targets, they also need to have a safety policy that would enable the employees to feel safe and valued for their input in the organisation. However, some companies take the safety of their employees for granted and exploit them in various ways. The risks include workplace hazards, organisational culture, and human behavior risks. Workplace risks The company faces various workplace risks that put the employees at risk in their line of duty. Various equipment and substances provide workplace risks likely to create harm to the engineers working in the plant. The first hazard that the organisation faces is the poor payment of its engineers. The young engineers who are taken on and who have little experiences are not paid well.

They work for long hours, yet the payment they receive is so little. This places the organization at risk of an unmotivated staff who may end up not performing. The organisation also lacks a risk policy that should protect the employees from harm. There is no decision made on the training over this equipment use. This puts the organisation at risk of not knowing the mechanism of operations of the equipment. This places the organisation at risk of failure in operations due to lack of proper knowledge. The quality of work in the organisation is wanting as there is no competence. Temporary engineers have been hired alongside the permanent staff, and their work differs across various aspects. Standard, legislation, and good practice of risk assessment Businesses should comply with the legal and best practice standards that conform to the industry in which it is operating.

The engineering company should provide a safe working place for its employees by having clear guidelines for dealing with risk within the work premises. Best practices require that abnormalities identified reported receiving appropriate attention to provide appropriate working environments and work procedures. In addition to the best practices, there are laws that require the implementation of planning and execution of measures aimed at reducing risks at the workplace (Vigneau, Humphreys and Moon 2015, pg. In Japan, the Industrial Safety and Health Law (ISH Law) is in force to ensure that there are appropriate accommodations in the work environment and procedures (Horie 2010, pg. Government departments can also produce guidance that should be used in providing safety for the workers. The engineering organisation in the case study fails to comply with the law and engage in best practice for a healthy and safety environment.

Instead of supporting health and safety within the organisation, the company focuses only on maximizing profits. The management does not understand the importance of complying with safety compliance within the organisation. The employees do not seem to be aware of any legal and best practice requirements that protect them from various risks. The organisation lacks a system of hazard identification, analysing the frequency, and consequences of the organisation. The company faces three kinds of risks, that is human, the environment, and equipment. Human risk factors include the attitude towards providing a safer workplace. The management and employees do not support a safe work environment because they do not communicate various hazardous risks they face. The workplace environment also provides a challenge in prevention of risks from occurring.

Additionally, the organisation hires part-time employees and has a high turnover. Consequently, it is easy to manipulate employees through fear of losing jobs (Garlick 2017, pg. The best risk management plan for the company would be to create an effective health and safety department with the capacity to carry out a risk assessment. The department should be provided with the necessary support from the management and employees. Training employees about workplace health and safety guidelines are the best starting point.
