A person with anomic aphasia is not able to find the appropriate words for their intended speech. Annually, 180000 people contract anomic aphasia globally hence there is need to educate the public about the disease (McMicken, 22-31). This paper will therefore critically describe the symptoms of the ailment, underlying brain structures involved and at least one specific etiology. The symptoms of this disorder include periods of slow and halting speech as individuals search for the appropriate word. Another sign is the failure of the patients to remember names of people instantly they approach them. It disorients the part of the brain responsible for language development. The damage affects one's ability to pronounce certain words without hesitation. One common etiology of anomic aphasia is inheritance (Maeshima, 133-137).
