Civil rights and civil liberties are contained in the Bill of Rights and the declaration of independence (United States Department of Justice, 1). They both have a significant influence on the quality of life lived by Americans due to their constitutional basis. Although, they have both been applied with a lot of inequality favoring some individuals especially the political, governmental officers or bureaucrats who appear to be above the law Civil liberties protect the citizens against actions of the government. For instance, the liberty to practice a particular religion without interference or being forced by the government. Another Civil Liberty is the freedom of speech. In another word, it is supposed to guard democracy among the citizens. The rights ensure there is no discrimination and the equality is applied in education, employment, and much more.

The rights ensure equality despite your color, age, gender and even disability. In comparing Civil Rights and Civil liberties on how they are influential, it can be said that Civil Liberties are more influential than the civil rights. Civil liberties are more of protective in nature. He argues that there are many highly productive people in the private sector that are worth more honor compared to the workers whose work is better given to the private sector (Steve 6). Workers like taxi drivers, journalist, roofers, and other private sector workers perform important duties yet they are not celebrated. This is an instance where the government has neglected one part of the society. There is need to address this kind of discrimination. Interpretation of civil rights and civil Liberties to apply to states The states are obliged to do as enshrined in the constitution.

This was not the case initially as defined after the Barron v. Baltimore case in 1833. However, in the 1920s, the Fourteen Amendments were interpreted by the United States Supreme Court as to incorporate a substantial portion of the bill of Rights in restraining the state governments (Steffen 2). Contemporary Supreme Court Case on Civil Liberties In 2012, the government reasoned that the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) had control for that church.
