Name Professor Course Date Anthropology Chinese culture Most cultures that exist worldwide share some common features mainly because human nature depends on them for survival. The most common of them all is the fact that language is needed for communication. For my fieldwork I would choose to study the Chinese culture. I have many reasons that it will be very enjoyable to study the Chinese culture. References Schensul Stephen L. Jean J. Schensul and Margaret Diane LeCompte. Order Description:
The process of conducting fieldwork did much to help anthropology mature as a discipline. The minimum amount of time for most anthropological fieldwork is one year because in that period of time one is able to observe a complete annual cycle of activities (most rituals and whatnot are calendrical, repeating daily, weekly, monthly, or annually). For example, I lived with a family in a village in Borneo for 14 months. Once anthropologists started collecting information themselves, in a scientific manner and through the method of participant observation, the accuracy of their conclusions greatly improved. Anthropologists are social scientists. As such, we utilize the scientific method, which consists ofa.gathering data. formulating a hypothesis based on that data c.testing the hypothesised.sharing the results with other scientists.reformulating the hypothesis if need be, with further testing tests that are scientifically conducted must be repeatable, so that others may conduct the tests to see if the same results are achieved, and they must be based on empirical data – that is, data that one can experience with one’s senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. For your discussion board activity this week, tell us which culture you would study if you were to conduct anthropological fieldwork for a year. Why would you choose this culture? Now that you’ve learned about a few different anthropologists’ fieldwork experiences, do you think that you would enjoy this activity or not, and why? What do you think would be the biggest challenge for you? Explain one ethnographic technique that you would utilize.
