The article addresses how managers make poor strategic plans because most of them confuse strategic planning with strategic thinking. The research problem being addressed is how people have lost the pedestal for strategic planning and how they should implement it in order to make their businesses successful. The Fall and Rise of Strategic Planning is a very effective article which tries to address a challenging issue to most business people. Analysis The author starts by arguing that since business leaders discovered strategic planning they have forgotten how to think critically plan who can bring order to the firm and a creative person who seeks to open up the strategy-making process. If a manager can’t afford to pay for these people he/she can use trusted employees who have these capabilities. The author concludes by emphasizing on how human beings are known to formalize issues. He argues that it’s important for people not to go overboard. Managers and planners need to understand the limits of strategic planning. This article defines strategic planning well and how managers should apply strategic planning and thinking in their business. However it doesn’t give some specific plans that managers can make to help them in running their corporations. Reference Mintzberg H. (1994). The fall and rise of strategic planning.
