Essay on Political Socialization
With some children, their political attitudes do remain uncertain due to personality variables. It is important to note that family is the foundation of political socialization, especially in learning how to conduct oneself socially on a daily basis. School, on the other hand, is the first leap into the political world, a place where one becomes part of a social group for the first time. One is introduced to democracy, compromise, competition, and cooperation. Students have different ideologies, values, and beliefs. They often taught me to choose any political view as long as I was respectful to other children, teachers, and everyone else, be it their religious opinions, social orientation, and political views. The main thing that they taught me which I still value up to date is love for others, this value helps in solving many conflicts that especially rise from the difference in political socialization.
Another thing that I learned from my parents that greatly shaped my views on politics is the Vietnam War that led to the death of many people and many becoming refugees especially here in America. He said that having strong political opinions without respecting the other's political opinions is very dangerous and can divide even a strongly bound community. Growing up in a largely republican society, I often had to defend my beliefs and actions. Media has also had a role in shaping my political socialization, especially in my teenage years, reading and watching the political commentaries. I tend to listen to both sides of political idea and stories in order to come up with my final judgment are right or wrong.
