SUMMARY AND ANALYSIS OF A POLITICAL PAPER The political science paper entitled ‘Is Democracy Good for the Poor?' is an illustration of the dynamics of democracy and it impacts in the life of the poor. Despite the fact that democratic regimes spend a lot of money in ensuring that public goods and services reach the citizens regardless of their status there is no clarity whether they are concerned on the well-being of the poor and the marginalized in the society (Michael 1). Similarly there is no clarity on whether the democratic regimes are concerned with the material welfare of the poor in particular and other people in general. It is very clear from this paper of Michael Ross that many studies have been very explicit in showing a correlation between development and democracy. However such relationships have keeping their children alive while not taking care of what they consume or drink. Another reason is that most of the basic needs that are used by children are expensive to acquire hence beyond the economic limit of the poor. On the other hand the government is also unable to lower the prices of such goods in order to take care of the poor because it may cause the political crisis in the country because of inelastic demand. On the same note too many subsidies on the poor and middle-class citizens do not have any consequential effect on the child mortality rate. Finally the paper illustrates that the poor only benefits from democracy if the income is redistributed on flat platforms. Reference Michael Ross. Is Democracy Good for the Poor?
