Food deserts and obesity

Document Type:Research Paper

Document 1

Since the population has to live, there is a high probability that people will consume any type of food available. When access to nutritious food becomes hard, most of the citizens will feed on the cheap and available foods most of which contribute to junk foods (Shannon, 250). Desperation forces people to feed on unhealthy foods because they cannot afford to purchase nutritious foods. In the food deserts, there is a lot of unhealthy food which the society feeds on thus adding to their challenge of developing health issues such as obesity. Feeding on unhealthy food products results in the accumulation of body fats which eventually contribute to obesity in a large group of the society. For example, the majority of the population lives in financially strained families.
