Public speaking also serves the purpose of motivating individuals to act, telling stories, transmitting information, or a blend of those (McCornack and Ortiz, 2014). Public speaking may be employed in several different kinds and has progressed throughout the decades to turn into what it is presently. Understanding when public speaking can be most efficient and how it is appropriately performed is a vital part of knowing its significance. I possess the skill of public speaking because during the several times I have presented a speech before a live audience I could overcome any nervousness that may arise during my presentations. Secondly, through the proper systematic training, I have acquired in the past few years, I have mastered several ways to cover up a lapse of memory, coordinate and concentrate well and also gained a quick physical and mental response.

Additionally, other people from the audience will engage with the speaker whereas others will leave the room. The skill of public speaking will be quite relevant in my future career as a businessperson. It will enable me to promote good communication which is necessary within and outside an institution or the workplace. The skill will also allow me to encourage my employees or teammates to guide them through their projects, pass instructions for them to stop doing or do something, and change a colleague’s behavior to attain the set goals. The skill will also help me in presenting PowerPoint presentations and research papers in organizations and presenting pitches and ideas to a client or my boss. I also can chair meeting with ease and know how to cope with difficult team members as well as resolve conflicts that may arise in a group.

Possessing the skill of team-working is essential because it shows that one has professional integrity especially through demonstrating the interpersonal skills. Team-working also communicates to the team members that you have respect for the set goals as well as the members of the group (Lake et al. , 2015, p. One way I have demonstrated team-working is by being adaptable and flexible in my group assignments where I have been able to express my diverse points of views respectfully to my team members. The skill will also give me the knowledge of sharing responsibilities with colleagues which will decrease any risk for liability. Giving and receiving feedback is also another skill that is necessary for facilitating good working relationships with team members. Feedback is the flow of information between associates, colleagues, or peers.

Based on my peer’s experiences, I have demonstrated the skill of giving feedback by explaining to a team member about his actions in a credible, blame-free manner whereas the attribute of receiving feedback has been shown through openly accepting the information without being guarded and defensive. The attribute of giving and receiving feedback is necessary for my future career since the skill will guide me in supervising and counseling a colleague or employee concerning her work and performance.

Possessing the ability will further help me talk over an employee’s or colleague’s work with her through come up with future actions to take against her. Alternately, having the skill of receiving feedback will enable me to define what is efficient in my work in my future career (Ali and Lam, 2014, p. Furthermore, resilience helps people to find solutions to their challenges and enable to endure the burdens that life presents. Based on the notes from my journal concerning how I dealt with a former problem I can say I possess this skill because I have successfully been able to deal with the obstacles that I have experienced during my childhood. I currently can live a positive life, both mentally and physically, by learning how to solve one problem at a time and get through any traumatizing moments that may arise in my life.

With the excellent skill of resilience comes contradictions attached to it. For instance, a person who has extreme resilience might become excessively persistent with unachievable goals. The speaker can be immediately judged by the way he talks, his body language, and his choice of words which can ruin his reputation. The information passed by the speaker may also be misunderstood. This can, however, can be developed by a speaker preparing thoroughly before giving a speech. In team-working, one of the strengths it portrays is that working in a team is the most effective way of accomplishing a goal. Furthermore, it also helps members to complete a task faster and on time. Furthermore, the receiver of the information can be easily offended if the information is conveyed aggressively or may deny the claims and refuse on improving.
