Also, according to Toben Nelson, the author of the article Commentary: Drinking Age of 21 saves lives ascertains that “A drinking age of 21 has led to less drinking, fewer injuries and fewer deaths”. This tells that there is a need to maintain the minimum legal drinking age to twenty one years in order to protect the young adults from the alcohol consumption. This can only be done by retaining the minimum drinking age twenty one years and turning from those who want the minimum drinking age lowered. To begin with, addiction remains as one of the main reasons as to why the young adults should not be permitted to have alcohol at a young age. There young brain is still developing and hence they are more likely to get addicted compared to those aged twenty one years and above.

America is one society where its youths are so excited about attaining the adulthood age, that is eighteen years and above. The society gives the new young adults the rights to engage in most activities that they have seen their parents or adult relatives do. It is an age where one is able to make a decision whether right or wrong, but the law will be on their neck in case of a wrong decision. As for his age, the young adults in America are still school going and therefore they still stand to be watched and guided by their parents or guardians. According to the psychologists, a man or woman of eighteen years is still developing physically and mentally. George who is a journalist for Washington post, "The teenage driver in an alcohol-related crash that claimed the life of a student from Sherwood High School and left another severely injured was sentenced to serve an 18-month jail term on Thursday at an emotional hearing that drew dozens of friends and relatives to a Rockville courtroom.

Austin Donovan Hall, now 18, lost control while driving 119 mph on Labor Day weekend 2014 in a residential area of Olney, Md, where the speed limit was 35. He had just left an underage drinking party less than a mile away, and the Chrysler convertible went off the road, hitting a tree and a light pole. Shawn Gangloff, 15, was ejected and later died of his injuries; Max Dechter, then 17, was hospitalized for months. Hall pleaded guilty in July to a charge of vehicular manslaughter in Gangloff's death and a charge of causing a life-threatening injury while driving impaired by alcohol, in connection with Dechter's injuries. The youths should not be allowed to start engaging in alcohol the moment they cross over to the adulthood.

Also, according to Carey Goldberg, a writer and editor for New York Times “consumption of alcohol among young adults has been associated with poor performance among college and high school students”. The teenagers illegally consume alcohol against the law which has negatively impacted on their performance. America needs a healthy population in the current time and also in the future so as to keep up with development pace. A healthy population is not the kind of population that has its junior adults engaging in alcohol. When there is increased drugs intake among the population, the country will lack its own manpower in the near future and avoid this, America has to reduce drugs addiction among the population. To make sure that the future of the country's manpower remains bright, America has to make sure that the rules against drugs are even tighter.

Accordingly, tightening the rules will not only make sure that there is a reduced intake of drugs among the population but also reduced exposure of young people to drugs. When young people are exposed to alcohol at a young age, they tend to be more dependent on alcohol compared to their counterparts who are twenty-one years and above. This can be said that the young people are easily addicted to alcohol than those who are of a greater age to them. Apart from the alcohol addiction on the young adults, alcohol also has some specific effects on the young developing brain that are not easily treated. According to German Lopez, a reporter for Vox news, “Alcohol makes the brain to be slow in delivering some of its function.

Alcohol slows reactions, disrupts sleep, lead to confusion, poor vision and also lack of coordination”. For instance, France has 29 percent, America 31 percent and China has just 4 percent. This is to say that the American government should put in more effort to ensure those road accidents that involve drunk young adults are reduced. The teenagers have continuously broken the law so that they can get themselves drunk. They go against the set minimum legal drinking age and they indulge in alcoholism. As a result, some of the teenagers have ended up on the wrong side of the law who end up in juvenile prison or they get sentenced to rehabilitation centers. What this means is that America should work on its road safety policies to ensure that road carnage is minimized at any cost.

The government's main concern with its population is to take care of its young generation and ensure that they live in good health. Reducing the minimum legal drinking age will mean that the government wants to expose a greater portion of its population to alcoholism which will, in turn, mean that a greater proportion of the population will not be healthy. Therefore, for the government to ensure that its population is healthy, it should heed to the calls of reducing the minimum legal drinking age but increase it at any slightest opportunity available.
