Smalls Class: CRJ 201-Sect. # (include yours!) Date Due: ENTER DATE DUE Date Submitted: ENTER DATE SUBMITTED Characteristics of an Effective Investigator A. Subject Detective Chosen For this assignment I chose the fictional character Sherlock Holmes to report on his qualities and characteristics. Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries who first appeared in publication in 1887. He is the creation of Scottish-born author and physician Arthur Conan Doyle. A brilliant London-based "consulting detective", Holmes is famous for his intellectual prowess, and is renowned for his skillful use of astute observation, deductive reasoning and inference to solve difficult cases. (Wikipedia website) I chose Sherlock Holmes because he is arguably the world’s most famous detective and one that I am quite familiar with. I must have read all of the 56 short stories and four novels on Sherlock Holmes written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle at least three times. It was also very easy to find information on him on the Internet and in the books that I own. B. Sherlock Holmes’ Characteristics/Qualities (How the Subject’s Characteristics/Qualities compare with those listed in the textbook • Referenced in BOLD CAPITALIZED letters in Section B below. (Hess & Orthmann, 2015, p. 9) I want at least 10 characteristics In the Sherlock Holmes novel entitled “A Study in Scarlet,” Holmes’ relevant characteristics/qualities are listed as follows: (Doyle, 1927, p. 21) Bold, uppercase characteristics are from (Hess & Orthmann, 2015, p. 13-15) 1.
