Freedom of expression in schools essay

The right to free expression is legal; hence universities and campuses should positively embrace that right. The law is specific regarding freedom of expression in public institution. Public establishments should not discriminate persona due to what their opinions are even if they don't sound right. We may set reasonable time, method and place limits and act to defend other students’ safety, but by the constitution, we will never do that based on the speech of a lecturer or a student. Public universities and colleges should not act ignorant to this amendment to the law (Lukianoff 542). This shows that they may have had feelings and opinions about matters; nonetheless, they never express their thoughts and feelings. The effects of protectiveness towards this right have some benefits and some challenges (Scanlon,1972).

The students who oppose freedom of expression help in the prevention of hate speech brought when people are involved in arguments in a school situation. With this privilege, people tend to use it in the wrong way promoting hate speech. Another effect that it has on students is that it prevents vulnerable students from being hurt by views unknowingly or knowingly. The scholars feel secure from speech-harming in campus; nonetheless, they will never be protected from the castigation from lecturers. Students feel anxious about articulating their ostracized situations or feelings of their education and thesis, and most students have to think that they have no freedom of expression since they are afraid to be shut down by the administration or other people who are in power.
