History - Undaunted Courage, Article
Section 1:"Content"--2-3 pages (30 points). I need works cited from the text and examples from the text. It is to be a review stating the author's thesis--does he succeed in proving his point or is he too far fetched? Examples of why he was successful or not. Who was Lewis--weaknesses and strengths and how they contributed to his successes and failures. How is this book different from the knowledge we received in elementary school regarding Lewis and Clark? How does Jefferson error by tasking Lewis to the expedition and then also the publication of the journal without support and giving him the governorship of Louisiana? What could have been a better course by Jefferson since he knew Lewis so well? What could have been a better appointment based on Lewis' strengths and weaknesses? (perhaps, given him more time to establish trading posts and relationships with the Indians, and the time to personally return Big White). Who was Clark and how did he impact Lewis? Organize thematically, not chronologically. Section 2: "Value" (20 points) 1-2 pages: How valuable is the book for students of history? What is the author's purpose of the book? What sources where used--primary or secondary or both? Is this selection of sources appropriate to the study or too selective? examples of each.
Section 3: "Readability" (15points) 1/2-1 page. Critique how easy it was to read the book. Is the subject-matter logically organized? Are the supplemental materials--maps, pictures, graphs--helpful to your understanding or not? Does the author provide information necessary for your understanding of key terms, definitions, background, etc. or does he presuppose a general knowledge?
Section 4: "Personal growth" (15 points). This is the section that may use first person, but doesn't have to. What was the most important thing you learned/took away from this book? Is the book recommended for a general student or professional specialist? Would you recommend the book for another student in this course? Any other comments?
I am a good writer and that will be expected of me. I have had a personal/family crisis and having this over my head for the start of my Junior year is not allowing me to cope. Thank you for your help. I will use your review and make it my own. This is for IB History
