The Bible warns that an individual should be on the watch out for all types of greed since the life of an individual does not revolve around how much possessions he has. Mathew 6:19 warns that a man should not spend his life on earth amassing his wealth on earth where they can be attacked and ruined by pests or could be stolen. Verse 24 of the same chapter warns that it is impossible to serve God while amassing wealth at the same time (Deffinbaugh n.d). It is because Jesus the son of God was unconcerned about acquiring wealth as he was carrying out the work of God such that going into the great depression when people lost their jobs and many businesses went under (Waugaman 2015). There is the famous black Monday of 1987. The most recent incident of greed is the NASDAQ crash of 2000 and scandals such as the Enron in 2001. Today it is not rare to hear about the real estate market crashes and how the financial institutions are being affected such as the Lehman Brothers Merrill Lynch Washington Mutual and AIG.
