As they were talking with my parents I heard her saying that her high school son was complaining because he did not have a car to ride to school and he has to be picked and dropped by the school bus. I related this incident to the documentary An African Journey with Jonathan Dimbleby and I realized that expecting to drive oneself to school is a “first world problem” for the American youngsters. The named documentary described the hardships that Africans face in their day to day lives. Leave alone driving to school but a large population of African children cannot another individual or group of a different race. Mostly such thoughts are lowly and demeaning. For instance in the US the young black males are mostly associated with crime. Therefore a lady walking down the street would see a black male and develop some thoughts that the person is a criminal. However these thoughts would not have been generated if the lady was meeting with a person with similar characteristics but who is a white. As such in racism prejudice is associated with the development of negative thoughts regarding a person of a different race. Considering a different scenario a traffic officer who stops a young black male driver may suspect him to be a criminal (prejudice). Upon such baseless suspicions the police may decide to stop and search the car. This action is based on prejudice and it is referred to as discrimination on the basis of race. [...]
