American propaganda during World War II

(a) Select a topic in U.S. History that corresponds to the time period of the class--1607-1974.[Be sure to choose a topic that you are very interested in; this will make your project more enjoyable to do.] (b) Survey web sites in your topic. As I am sure you are aware, each topic could have web-sites related to sub-topics, e.g. The Civil War, might have web sites devoted just to the Battle of Gettysburg or Antietam, or to President Lincoln’s role in the war. Sub-topics of a larger topic are acceptable as your research project. Sometimes students find it interesting or relevant to link their web site topic to their major here at AAU. For example, a fashion major might find a web site devoted the fashion of the 1920’s, a fine arts major might select one on an influential American artist. Architectural Design students might select Frank Lloyd Wright; Industrial Design majors- Henry Ford, etc, But no matter what topic is selected, whether in your major or not, one that has a strong interest for you is probably a good one, and one you should pursue. You will likely do a better job on your project and will have more enjoyment doing it. (c) Submit a written work on your selected web site. The presentation should be approximately a page to three pages in length. In the presentation explain: [Here is my suggested organization for your project: Paragraph One (Introduction to your Topic)--Introduce your topic and explain why you were interested in that particular topic. Paragraph Two (Introduction to the Particular Website You Have Chosen)--Explain why you have chosen that particular web site over other sites (Be sure to give us SPECIFIC examples to support your choice.) Paragraphs Three, Four, and Five (A Summary of the Information in the Website)--Describe and explain what you learned about your chosen topic. (Remember that each paragraph must revolve around one central idea, a topic sentence. This topic sentence must be supported by specific details: facts, examples, or anecdotes you found within the website.) Paragraph Six (Your Conclusion)---why you would recommend the web site to others and anything else you feel is pertinent to your subject. Paragraphs three through six will be the largest part of your report. Finally, be sure to have a title! --Graphics--photos, charts, maps, etc. are not required but always add to a project. (d) Sometimes a particular web site may have only part of what you are looking for, and another one may have the rest of the information. It is acceptable to base your project on two or more web sites. But it is hoped you can find what you are looking for in just one web site to save you some effort. It might take you as much or more time to find a suitable web site as it does to present the information you will write up about it. (e) Be sure to include the web site ADDRESS so the instructor can survey the site as he reads your paper. [I will be giving you information on how to cite your sources. Please watch for this in my upcoming posts. It is very important to document your work correctly, which means to show where your information came from, according to MLA format.] (f) Remember that student work will be checked for plagiarism by the Turnitin System, so put as much of the report in your own words as possible.[We call this "paraphrasing".] If you use verbatim entries, or a direct quote, be sure to cite where it came from. [You must have quotation marks around verbatim entries and direct quotes. Remember that if you copy another person's words without giving credit to the person who wrote or said those words, you are plagiarizing.] (g) The project is due August 5, 2016. You are encouraged to turn it in sooner, if possible. It will have a value of 150 points so it is a big part of your grade. Don’t miss this assignment, it can severely affect your grade if you do. (h) Projects should be submitted to the Turnitin System. [See Michael's instructions.]
