Establishing Theme - E.T. (Example)

Document Preview:

Name Professor Course Date Theme of religion Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial film has a theme of religion. The film has characters that have supernatural powers which make it comparable with Christianity teachings contained in the Bible. The film has symbolism which represents experiences witnessed in the Bible. E.T. represents Jesus in the film. The acts such as the one where children are used to hiding E.T. are a reflection of the supernatural powers Jesus had. Elliot and E.T. are also pledging that they will always believe in their followers in every day of their life. E.T. does the things Christ did when he was living in the world like healing a person who was bleeding by touching a glowing finger (Sinyard 52). They also state that they will be living with the followers at least in spirit. E.T also makes people go up and fly which is an a person fly. It has built on emotions which make the audience more interested to know what will happen next. The composition of the film is also done well. The actors objects and space have maintained a balance of symmetry. The elements match each other and they also match the theme of religion. The design elements also match with the theme because they create an environment which reflects supernatural power such as healing of a person who is bleeding. The film would not have used other technique to deliver a message on the same theme. To use other techniques Spielberg would have to change the theme. This is because every theme has the elements that best shows the directors intentions in a film. Different themes are portrayed by different elements.
