Pakistan, despite being endowed with vast coal reserves primarily in the Thar lignite field, faces an acute energy crisis that makes it rely on the exports from the US. Coal is too bulky, and it is for this reason that it is preferable to transport it via the sea. Going forward, the future of seaborne metallurgical coal is a bright one due to the increasing demand for steel globally.
